A custom background for Twitter can make a real impression and boost your brand but how does one make one? In this guest post I am going to share some pointers on the easiest way to make your own.
The main problem you will face when planning Twitter backgrounds is that your Twitter homepage will look quite different on assorted monitors at diverse resolutions. According to statistical data, the majority of users have a screen resolution of 1024x768 or higher, so I'm going to take the freedom of planning a background at that resolution and utterly ignore 800x600. It is tricky luck for those older monitor users.
These are the general standard measures accepted by majority of designers :
Image width : 1255 pixels
Image height : 555 pixels
Left graphic width : 245 pixels
Right graphic width : 250 pixels
Presuming you being a blogger and hoping to build a private brand through Twitter, your custom background for Twitter should have your trademark, your photograph, your blog's URL and your slogan. So these are the main ingredients and now we can start!
Photoshop, Fireworks, or Paint, it doesn't matter. All that you need to do is to make a new graphic that is 1255 x 555. This is going to be the background image for your Twitter profile. You need to leave Twitter post area empty. If you know the way to employ a guide, then create a vertical guide at 450 pixels and another vertical guide at 1005 pixels. The space between these 2 represents the Twitter post area.
If you do not know how to use a guide, just draw two imaginary vertical guides and leave the area between them blank. You need to locate your blog's URL, your photograph, your trademark, and your slogan out of this zone in order that it will not clash with the Twitter post area. You'll try a number of times for the best result, so you should be patient.
Done? Now save your graphic as either a GIF or JPG file. Make sure that the file size is less than 800K. This is the maximum size authorized by Twitter for a background image.
